Aim

The aim of the programme is to introduce more children into sportshall athletics and for them to enjoy the experience as much as possible. It also aims to foster a spirit of teamwork, so athletes will be required to participate in more than just their favourite events. Many of the children will be attempting these events for the first time, so some latitude should be given when scoring events. You will be instructed in the basic techniques and rules of the events prior to the event. You will also be given a written programe of events on receipt of your entry form.

After these two session are completed the athletes will be selected on their performances to form the Isle of Wight Sportshall Under 11 team .The Wight Widgets to compete in the regional final in Surrey University on February 10th 2018.

This will mean that the athletes selected will have to attend 3/4 training sessions on a Saturday afternoon in Nov/Dec/Jan at Sandown. You will be required to attend these sessions. We will be hopefully taking 3 Minibuses to cut our costs, the selected team members will be asked to pay towards their travel costs unless I can find more money and we will have your own Wight Widgets tee shirt which we will provide.

Eligibility Under 11 i.e. aged 9,10 currently in School Years 4, 5

The minimum age for the event is 9 years old on the day of the Final 10th February 2018

You must be under 11 on the day of the competition in Surrey on 10th February 2018

This is not a team event at Sandown all individuals will take part in all 10 events. The regional final is a team competition

Equipment Will be provided for all the events The cost of entry is £3.00 per child. There will be medals for the first three boys and girls after both days.

Plus Certificates for everybody which will be sent into your schools for presentation.

Event Rules – Field Events

Each competitor will be permitted three trials in the Field Events, except the Speed Bounce where there will be one trial only, and the Balance Beam, where there will be two trials per foot, each of 15 seconds maximum to give the final total. The Target throw will be 2 trials.

The time allowed for Speed Bounce competitors will be – Under 11’s 20 secs, Every child will be given an opportunity to set a mark in each event

To assist in the smooth running of the event only the longest throw of each competitor in the Javelin will be measured.
